Gary Solomon, MPH, M.S.W., Ph.D., the "Father of CinematherapyTM", was the first to create the concept of Cinematherapy with the writing of his first book, The Motion Picture Prescription. He has since continued his concept of Cinematherapy with his second book, Reel Therapy.
Dr. Solomon has a Masters Degree in Public Health and Social Work, a Doctorate in Social Work (ABD), and a Doctorate in Psychology. He is currently a Professor of Psychology at the Community College of Southern Nevada in Henderson, Nevada. He has also taught classes in Human Behavior, Drug and Alcohol, Community Resources, Direct Practice, and Research at the University of Arizona School of Social Work.
Dr. Solomon's clinical experience includes a variety of outpatient and inpatient mental health settings as well as private practice. He also served as an administrator at the Neuropsychiatric Institute at UCLA and Buena Vista Hospital in East L.A., California. His professional publications include clinical and research papers on Content Analysis and Behavioral AIDS Studies. He has also done major research in the area of Mental Illness, Violence and Recidivism.
Dr. Solomon, also know as "The Movie DoctorTM", began using movies as therapy in his private practice, when it was suggested that he write a book on the subject. This, began his journey into the new and innovative field of CinematherapyTM.
Gary Solomon lives in Henderson, Nevada with his significant other, Robin Huhn, a Chiropractic physician. The Movie DoctorTM continues to write and lecture on the concept of CinematherapyTM.
